Mio VELO is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compatability list is not quite right Given that this item is in the premium price band I'm disappointed that it only works with limited functions with Android app. Great with my Ant Cateye 51 recording HR and with Apple iPad but no go button for activity recording when using Android phone, only HR. Don't really want to carry an iPad in my back pocket when cycling. Looking at other reviews, HR does vary in the first 0-5 mins, I know what it feels like to be at 180. I do like using this instead of a chest strap and the charging method. Great use on a fixed spin bike using iPad recording interval session. Please sort out the Android phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more chest strap! I wanted to hold off until i had several rides in with my new Mio Velo. When you first put it on, it feels a little tight, but after about 5-10 minutes I forget that it is there (especially under a long sleeve jersey). When was the last time you ever forgot you were wearing a chest strap? I was a little concerned about some reviewers having trouble getting consistent data. I have used it on 6 rides from 30 minutes to 3.5 hours and got solid HR data start to finish recorded by my Edge 1000. I don't think i ever saw data that solid with a chest strap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for training, less so for TT racing I've had a MioVelo for some time now and much prefer it to a chest strap. However it struggles to provide a correct reading at the beginning of each and every Time Trial I've used it for. By the time I get to my start (one has to be there a few minutes ahead of time), my HR has dropped considerably and then once I've launched off into the race it rises very quickly. The Mio Velo either gives me a reading that is very very low when I'm clearly at or approaching threshold or, as at yesterday's race a ridiculously high reading. eg my threshold HR is ~157 and 2 races ago it was reading 94 for the first few minutes and yesterday 210. In short IMHO great for training and some races but perhaps not TT's

Rated 1 out of 5 by from no support for ant+ power meter or trainner when the product was first announced i was excited to see finally a solution to link up my ant+ sensors to the bt only iphone. seeing the image of garmin vector appearing in the product page (which has now been taken down) has given me false hope of it translating my power readings to the phone running apps such as trainnerroad. few months has passed and still no support for power meters, also the buggy iphone 6 apps has trouble remembering settings for each bikes too. overall very disappointed and i am back to chest straps for a more reliable solution.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Amazing idea, if it worked properly This looked like the ideal product for me. I wanted to track my heart rate, link to my bike computer, but also be able to see what zone I'm in at a glance. I REALLY wish it worked but it's been consistently inconsistent. My chest strap will monitor around 160 and the Velo is saying I'm between 185 (and sometimes 200?!) It seems to work great walking around the house, but for physical activity it's not working for me at all. I hope they get it figured out because this COULD be great. 2 stars because it does monitor your heart rate, and it does connect to my phone and computer. Just not accurately...which is the point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Heart Rate Monitor on the market! I purchases the Mio Aplha at issue and have not looked back. As good as that monitor is, the Velo takes it to a new level. In my view, as far as heart rate monitor accuracy is concerned, Mio is unsurpassed. The Alpha served me well for two years and continues to do so. However, the Velo surpasses the functionality if Alpha in two ways: first, it is slimmer than the Alpha and also sits more flush to your wrist. Second; having both ant. and Bluetooth functionality is a significant advantage. As a cyclist and triathlete, I have always been a devout user of Garmin technology, but have always been extremely disappointed with their heart rate monitor technology. Pairing the Velo with my Garmin devices improved my workout analysis significantly. I have been so impressed with Mio, I also purchased a device for my son who is an elite triathlete. Likewise, he and his coach have found the data accuracy to have been very beneficial with regard to analyzing workouts and developing training plans.Aside from the accuracy component, when one considers the cost of constantly replacing heart rate straps at $50+ a clip, the projected 5 year life of the Velo also makes it a very economical purchase. Take a chance... You will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I was worried that I might have trouble based on reviews of some optical heart rate monitors. Used it the first ride with a strap at the same time and could see that both were within one or two BPM of each other. Since then I've used it alone and I love it. No more discomfort with the chest strap and no more issues early in the ride (until you start sweating) that I had with all my chest straps.
Date published: 2014-12-31
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device I have been looking for an alternative to the standard heart rate chest strap which feels uncomfortable while racing. The Mio Velo works great and is very comfortable. I don't notice it is there. Appears to track well with my chest strap so is also pretty accurate. It is still new but looks like a winner to me.
