Mio ALPHA Heart Rate Sport Watch Features

Natural Running Coach Richard Diaz recommends Mio ALPHA

The electro-optical cell in our heart rate sensor "senses" the volume of blood under your skin. From there, sophisticated algorithms are applied so that your heart’s true rhythm can be detected.

Mio ALPHA (Black) Heart Rate Sport Watch is rated 4.2475 out of 5 by 101.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the price Using it for about half year, well, I would not say this watch it not good, but it just not worth the price. The biggest problem, it don't have any blacklight on it, so when you running at night, this watch almost useless, you only can use the LED light to know you are or not in the target zone.A watch in 2014 which you cannot use at night...Then the HR zone setting, you only can set the lowest and highest, and if your HR going out of the zone, the watch keep beeping, so whether you don't start the watch when you warming up, or you warming up with the beep sound. This watch only gives you the very basic and limited function for such price. If ask me will I buy this watch again? NO WAY.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable & easy to use I have had this product for a year now, and I've used the heart rate monitor for a variety of exercises: Running, walking, skiing, rowing, cycling, weight lifting, soccer, baseball, football, etc. There isn't anything I've done that has outpaced its abilities, and I wear it every day during my 12 hour work shifts too. The battery also has a super-long life, accurate charge remaining readout, and I haven't had a problem with the contacts becoming corroded due to saline accumulation from the skin. The only thing I would change about this watch is to give it a light or photo cell / sensor that would brighten the display when in a dark environment. Overall this is a great watch and heart rate monitor, well worth the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but occasional issues finding a HR I purchased the Mio Alpha roughly 6 months ago because I occasionally go into V-tach when I exercise too hard due to some structural damage in my right ventricle. The heart rate moinitor works great and syncs up to my phone without any issues, but I've had issues with it detecting a heart rate from time to time when I'm lifting weights. I'll re-position it on my wrist, tighten the band, switch hands, etc. and it still won't work. It will eventually find the HR after turning it off and on, but it can be pretty frustrating to fidget with it when you're trying to get in and out of the gym quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A former biker, I’m saddled with tachycardia and now have an IUD (pacemaker). Unfortunately, it can’t differentiate between a fast heart from exercising and a fast heart gone awry, so I risk being shocked when I bike. My Mio, set below the shock bar, allows me to exercise worry free. While it’s not a medical device, my Mio is as close to a consumer medical device as you can get. –Rich Poole(My Mio works best worn just below or above the elbow (arms too bony at the wrist). I wish you had an extender that temporarily lengthens the band for wear normally or there’s more muscle/fat. Made one with Velcro, elastic and cable ties. Can’t readily remove/reinstall but it works. Wanna see? Will provide a pic.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy to have Before purchasing Mio Alpha, I made a long research. I'm happy since I decided to buy. But two things to notice for me; it doesn't show time in 24h format. This is something that keeps it away from using like a normal watch. And second, because of hairy skin, sometimes it doesn't monitor my hart rate correct. So I started to wear it on the inner side of my arm.Overall I can say I'm happy to have it and recommend to my friends. Actually after I found it, my two other friends wanted to have so we purcahsed 3 pairs together. And we are all satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heart rate monitor I purchased the Mio Alpha just over 3 months ago & have been dry happy with it. It's as accurate as the chest band monitors but much more comfortable & easier to use. Until this purchase I have used a chest band monitor for my fitness training but would not revert back after the Mio Alpha. The downside to the Mio Alpha for me is:1. The clock is in whole minutes without seconds shown &2. There is no light within the dial which makes reading the time difficult when wearing the equipment as a watch only at night

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fine Feature... I got this 4 months ago and over all I am satisfied with it.The main issue that prevent it from being a great feature is that to many times it fails to read my heart rate, but eventually it succeeds.Other than that it can not connect with Nike+ Running app , which is by the way the most convenient app i have used (I tried Mio, strava and some others..).The BIG plus is that you dont have to wear any straps on you and still you get pretty accurate results for your heart rate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Continuous H/R readout is great Have a cardiac condition resulting in a very slow H/R, bought the early MIO about two years ago in order to track H/R. Functioned well but at times, the two finger readout was a wee bit inconvenient! My new MIO Alpha provides a very effective continuous monitoring, and more so recently, since my condition required the implantation of a pacemaker! Now even more necessary to have continuous feedback on my H/R! Needless to say that I have been very impressed with the MIO Alpha
